Thomas L. Matthews, M.D. is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) in the Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Matthews graduated from Austin College with a degree in Biology, and went on to attend medical school at UTHSCSA, graduating there in 1997. He then completed General Psychiatry Residency as well as a Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Residency from UTHSCSA in 2002. In 2002 he joined the faculty in the Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. He is board certified in both General and Child &Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr. Matthews currently serves as the Division Chief of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry. He also serves as the Medical Director of Outpatient Psychiatric Services at Clarity Child Guidance Center. Previously he had served as the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Training Director or Associate Residency Training Director and was in one of those roles since 2004. Dr. Matthews also teaches residents/fellows, from interns to fifth year residents, and provides didactic and clinical teaching as well as psychotherapy and career supervision for them. He teaches first through fourth year medical students in both clinical and didactic settings. Teaching is also a key role that Dr. Matthews plays.
