Dr. Lawrence S. Schoenfeld is a Clinical Psychologist. He retired December 31, 2011 as The Ellie Rucker Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry, Anesthesiology and Rehabilitation Medicine (UTHSCSA). Dr. Schoenfeld received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida after completing an internship at the J. Hillis Miller Health Science Center. After serving as a commissioned officer in the Indian Health Service of the United States Public Health Service on the Navajo Reservation he came to the UTHSCSA to help start the first mental health center in San Antonio. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology and directed both the Clinical Psychology Residency (Internship) and Fellow programs and the Psychotherapy Training Program for psychiatry and psychology residents in the Department of Psychiatry. Recently he was named The Ellie Rucker Clinical Psychology Professor in Psychotherapy Training. Dr. Schoenfeld is nationally active and served as Commissioner on The American Psychological Association Commission on Accrediation as well
as a member the American Psychological Association Standing Ethics Hearing Panel.

Dr. Schoenfeld remains an active teacher, clinician, and researcher. He has over 100 publications dealing with a wide range of areas important to clinical psychology. Dr. Schoenfeld has been actively involved in the training of medical students, psychiatry residents and psychology residents through class room teaching as well as the supervision of clinical practice.

Dr. Schoenfeld?s clinical practice focuses on the application of psychological theory to ameliorate mental disorders. He specializes in psychotherapy (individual, couple, and family) as well as hypnosis and behavior modification. Dr. Schoenfeld sees a wide range of patients and often works jointly with a psychiatrist who will focus on pharmacological management. He has a special interest in pre-employment psychological evaluations and fitness for duty. A typical evaluation with Dr. Schoenfeld lasts about one hour. Follow-up visits generally are 50 minutes in length and occur weekly.
