Dr. Hargreaves received his BA in neurobiology from the University of California at Berkeley in 1977, his DDS from Georgetown University in Washington DC in 1983, and his PhD in Physiology from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland in 1986. From 1986 to 1990, he was a Staff Fellow and Senior Staff Fellow at the Neurobiology and Anesthesiology Branch of the National Institute of Dental Research (now NIDCR) at the NIH. He completed his residency in Endodontics at the University of Minnesota in 1993 and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. Dr. Hargreaves is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Endodontics, and Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, Department of Physiology, and Department of Surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He also maintains a private practice limited to endodontics. |

Pain & Inflammation, Analgesics, Hyperalgesia.....- Pain & Inflammation, Analgesics, Hyperalgesia, Clinical Therapeutics: Primary research interests are in the areas of pain and inflammation. His research team has published more than one hundred papers and one book, "Seltzer and Bender`s Dental Pulp," co-edited with Dr. Harold Goodis. His ongoing basic research includes studies on mechanisms of inflammatory pain and pharmacological regulation of peripheral nociceptors, whilst current clinical trials are evaluating peripheral pain mechanisms in endodontic patients, as well as the clinical outcomes of non-surgical endodontic procedures. |

Grant Detail | PI of UTHSCSA Study Site: Dr. Anibal Diogenes. Study Chair: Dr. Ken Hargreaves. This is a multi-center randomized controlled clinical trial evaluating regenerative endodontic therapies to MTA apexification. Although there is no scientific or technical overlap with the proposed application, it documents a strong commitment and foundation in the area of regenerative endodontics. |
