Comprehensive Dentistry

I received my BA in Biology at St. Mary`s University in 1973, my D.D.S. from the University of Texas Health Science Center in 1977, and my M.P.H. from the UTHSC Houston, San Antonio Branch in 1994. I began teaching as an Instructor in the Department of Prosthodontics in 1977, and directed the Freshman Crown and Bridge Didactic and Preclinical Courses from 1981 to 1998, and co-directed the Junior Didactic and Clinical Fixed Prosthodontics Courses from 1982 to 1996. In 1996 I moved to the Division of Operative Dentistry in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and directed the Sophomore Rubber Dam Course from 1997-2002, and the Sophomore Operative Preclinical Didactic and Preclinical Laboratory Courses from 1997 to 2002. I co-directed the Freshman Operative Dentistry Didactic and Preclinical Laboratory Courses from 2002 to 2005 and co-directed the Sophomore Didactic and Junior Clinical Operative dentistry from 2005 to the present. In 2009, I began co-directing the Junior Operative Didactic Course and in 2011, I began co-directing the Sophomore Operative Preclinical Courses. I took over directing the Junior clinical course in 2012 to the present and Directed participated in the curriculum revision that converted the preclinical operative corses into the foundations in restorative tract courses. DFRD 5003&4 and DFRD 6005&6.
I am currently a Professor in the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry. Throughout my entire teaching career at the Health Science Center, I have been involved with the direct supervision of patient care delivered by junior dental students between 5 and 6 half days a week.

I am particularly interested in curriculum development, the creation of innovative teaching materials, and the one-on-one teaching of students in the clinical setting.
