Device Development/Invention- Involved in the development through start up company of medical devices for critical care patients, in particular focused in bringing into clinical practice new endotracheal tubes and an inferior vena cava filter for use in critical ill patients. |
Interventional Pulmonary- First fellow trained at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston in interventional pulmonary. Developed the Interventional Pulmonary Program at the UTHSCSA and the University Health System. This program now is well recognized as the only interventional and advanced bronchoscopy program in South Texas. He introduced rigid bronchoscopy techniques, LASER resection, coagulation, cryotherapy and more recently the revolutionary techniques on endobronchial ultrasound. |
Lung Transplantation- The transplant program at the UTHSCSA has a long tradition and since 2001. The research and work with the management of potential lung donors has increased the volume and improved the results to have at this institution one of the best recognized programs in lung transplantation. We are involved in the national guidelines for donor management, evaluation of Antibody Mediated Rejection and recently developed a protocol to investigate gene activation during rejection. |

| 9/2001 - Present | Pulmonary and Critical Care Journal Club | UTHSCSA | 6 students |
| This is a monthly review of the 4-6 most important articles on pulmonary and critical care medicine with all the fellows. During this journal club Dr Angel does a scientific review of all the articles and has a discussion about the quality of the study and implications of each paper in our current practice. | |||
