The Health Science Center Preparatory Academy (HSC-Prep) was created to improve performance on the SAT Reasoning and Subject Tests among local high school students. The goal is to increase the number of qualified applicants to the health professions from economically disadvantaged ethnic minority communities. Dr. Oakes will contribute 5% time for a six month period January-June of 2008 and 2009 to develop and revise curriculum. Dr. Oakes will develop five geriatric topics each into one hour sessions with the goal of providing instruction for the students on core subject skills including reading comprehension, writing, mathematics, biology and Spanish language.Every year Dr. Oakes and fellows will deliver the program to close to 100 undeserved students.
