Planned themes for the next 3 conferences include: 22nd annual conference: "Complexity Science and Applications in Primary Care Research"; 23rd annual meeting: "Patient-Centerd Care, Patient-Centered Research"; and the 24th annual conference: "Research with Vulnerable Populations." |

The purpose of this contract (AHRQ Task Order no. 18, Expansion of the PBRN Stay at Home Influenza Toolkit) is to build on previous work done for AHRQ Task Order no. 2 (The Use of Health Information Technology to Support Self Care Management during a Pandemic Influenza Event). We will collaborate with the Oklahoma PBRN to build on customized practice websites created for the previous task order to create an off-the-shelf practice website resource for primary care physicians which is designed to help patients manage influenza (seasonal, novel H1N1, and pandemic). |

The purpose of this AHRQ-funded multinetwork contract was to assess primary care clinicians readiness to handle the expected patient surge in the event of a pandemic influenza outbreak. The South Texas Ambulatory Research Network (STARNet) worked with the Oklahoma Physicians Resource/Research Network (OKPRN) and three other PBRNs from around the country (CO, FL, DC), conducting a literature synthesis, qualitative clinician feedback sessions, and field-testing telephony and web-based solutions to assist practices provide self-management and shelter-in-place information for patients in the primary care setting. |

The theme for this year''s conference was "Social Epidemiology and Multilevel Effects Research." Plenary speakers included Ichiro Kawachi PhD, Harvard School of Public Health, who discussed The Search for Contextual Effects in Social Epidemiology: Challenges and New Directions, and J. Michael Oakes PhD, Univ. of Minnesota, who discussed Methodological Issues in Multilevel Effects Research. The Experienced Researcher workshop was conducted by Garrett Fitzmaurice D.Sc., Harvard School of Public Health, on the topic of "Applied Longitudinal Analysis: Marginal and Mixed Effects Models. And the Novice Researcher workshop was conducted by Lawrence Gabel PhD, Ohio State Univ., on the topic of "Increasing the Odds for Research Funding." |
