This particular phase III clinical trial also provides an opportunity to assess (in secondary analysis) whether prevention of secondary stroke reduces the frequency of development of new onset seizures. |

This is a planning grant for a multicenter study to enroll an estimated 1200 patients with new onset partial epilepsy. Patients are randomized to one of four initial pharmacological treatments: Carbamazepine, Lamotrigine, Levetricetam, or Torpiramate. |
