1/2003 - 1/2008 |
| Role |
Consultant |
| Grant Detail |
The major goals of this project are the safety and efficacy of antiplatelet and antihypertensive agents in the prevention of secondary stroke, major vascular events, and cognitive decline among patients with small subcortical stroke (S3). This particular phase III clinical trial also provides an opportunity to assess (in secondary analysis) whether prevention of secondary stroke reduces the frequency of development of new onset seizures. |

| Grant Detail |
The major goal of this study is to identify genetic and clinical factors that influence the development of medication resistance in newly diagnosed epilepsy. This is a planning grant for a multicenter study to enroll an estimated 1200 patients with new onset partial epilepsy. Patients are randomized to one of four initial pharmacological treatments: Carbamazepine, Lamotrigine, Levetricetam, or Torpiramate. |
