Conway, Deborah L

School of Medicine
(210) 567-5656

I currently serve as the Associate Dean for Curriculum at the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio, devoting 90% time to this position. In late 2011, I was asked to join the Dean?s Office as Curriculum Co-Director to assist the Vice Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education in planning and implementing a major curriculum redesign for our medical students, which we put in place for our entering class in 2012. Success in that endeavor, including removal of LCME probationary status in 2013, as well as in other projects and initiatives, resulted in my promotion to Assistant Dean for Curriculum in 2012, and Associate Dean for Curriculum in 2014. In this role I am responsible for regulatory oversight, strategic planning, and day-to-day operations related to the 4-year medical student curriculum. Between 2014-2016, I assisted educational and administrative leaders from the new UT Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine and from UT System, as UTRGV SOM adopted and implemented a preclinical curriculum derived from our CIRCLE Curriculum.

From February 2016-November 2018, I also served as the Interim Chair of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. In this role, I further expanded my service to our institution: within the department, the school, the faculty practice plan, the institution, and with our hospital partners. During this time, we recruited five MD faculty and four advanced practice nurse faculty, increased clinical revenues and new patient visits, while maintaining our department`s status as one of the best clinics for patient satisfaction within our practice plan.

I am certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. My clinical and research interests include diabetes in pregnancy, obesity in pregnancy, stillbirth, pre-pregnancy counseling, undergraduate medical education, and curriculum development. I have remained engaged with clinical research and publication, primarily via scholarly output from the NICHD-sponsored Stillbirth Collaborative Research Network, for which I was the San Antonio co-Principal Investigator.
