Claudia Miller, M.D., M.S. is a tenured Professor in Environmental and Occupational Medicine, Assistant Dean for the MD/MPH Program, and Vice Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). She has more than 30 years experience in public health, environmental health and medicine with various federal agencies and universities, serving in teaching, research, clinical and administrative roles.

Dr. Miller is also founder and director of the South Texas Environmental Education and Research (STEER) Program at UTHSCSA. STEER is the only medical school curriculum to offer hands-on, experiential training, unique field experiences in environmental health, public health, and international health at the US-Mexico Border for students enrolled in U.S. MD/MPH, medical, public health, and other health professions degree programs.

She co-authored a landmark report for the state of New Jersey on chemical susceptibility, for which the state received the World Health Organizations Macedo award, and a professionally acclaimed book, "Chemical Exposures: Low Levels and High Stakes"(2nd edition, John Wiley and Sons, Inc., New York, 1998). She has authored or co-authored numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed publications on the health effects of low-level chemical exposures.

Dr. Miller has organized and chaired two NIH meetings on chemical intolerance, one in Tokyo that focused on the need for and use of environmentally controlled hospital units for research, the other on Toxicant-Induced Loss of Tolerance (TILT), the disease mechanism she first described in 1996.

Her research interests include: 1) neurodevelopment and the environment (autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and 2) the use of an environmentally-controlled, hospital-based medical unit for assessing health effects of low level chemical exposures in a wide range of chronic illnesses-including asthma, autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, ADHD, autism, chemical intolerance, and Gulf War veterans illnesses.
