My program of research is focused on advancing mental health recovery in underserved populations with a particular interest in women living with serious mental illness. Specifically, I am interested in mental health recovery among women within the context of serious mental illness, trauma, substance use, and homelessness. Guided by Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) principles, I have completed funded research aimed at gaining insight into the traumatic experiences of women living with serious mental illness and in homelessness. Further, as PI of a Community Based Participatory Research project, I collaborated with the founders of a recovery-oriented community-based organization made with up of people psychiatric disorders to evaluate the effectiveness of their recovery-oriented program. I have disseminated my work nationally and internationally in leading interdisciplinary journals. Currently, I am a member of an interdisciplinary research team conducting funded research projects designed to explore opioid use in women of childbearing age.
