My program of research is focused on mental health recovery for women who experience serious mental illness and/or substance use, have a history of exposure to trauma, and have experienced homelessness. Using qualitative research methods, the intent of my research is to explore the meaning of recovery and pathways leading to recovery as perceived by these women. Guided by principles of Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR), I partnered with the leaders of a community-based mental health advocacy group to evaluate the effectiveness of their consumer-developed and consumer-led recovery-oriented program. Currently, I am conducting a funded research project designed to identify the contextual factors surrounding maternal relapse and/or overdose.
