The goals of this renewal project are to determine the key components of glutamate neurotransmission that are responsive to leptin signaling and responsible for the antidepressive effects of leptin. The role of remodeling of hippocampal dendritic spines, sites of glutamatergic synapses, in the antidepressive effects of leptin will be investigated. These studies will generate novel insights into molecular and cellular mechanisms into leptin action in the limbic system and lead to the development of novel therapies for depression. |
