Proposes to pilot, develop, implement, and evaluate the Interdisciplinary Medical Student Palliative Care And Communication Training: IMPACT Program. The focus of IMPACT is to educate medical students in the principles of Palliative Care, focusing on the following specific goals:
1. To develop a self-sustaining required didactic and experiential curriculum in Palliative Medicine for UTHSCSA third and fourth year medical students (clinical years); focusing on communication skills, and interdisciplinary-based care (IMPACT)
2. To establish a competency-based curriculum in Palliative Medicine that will adequately prepare future physicians as mandated by AAMC, LCME and Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
3. Evaluate the effect that the IMPACT curriculum has on medical students Palliative Medicine knowledge and skills and attitudes
4. To develop a peer mentoring program for faculty members interested in Palliative Medicine focusing on the improvement of teaching skills and academic productivity. |
