| Selected by the Deans Office to lead one of the School of Medicines Veritas Groups. Veritas Groups are designed for longitudinal advising throughout medical school starting early in the first year. Approximately 20 students are in each Veritas Group for each medical school class. Veritas Leaders meet with their students individually, in their class groups, and in larger inter-class group sessions throughout the year. In 2008, Veritas Leaders started facilitating medical students progress through the AAMCs Careers in Medicine curriculum. |

| Coordinate the monthly 1-3 hour residency conference sessions on pediatric topics. Developed and presented more than 80% of the monthly pediatric conference sessions using a variety of creative teaching methods, including case-based interactive sessions, Jeopardy gameshow type sessions, clinical inquiry sessions, and small group workshops. All sessions are evidence based and adhere to current clinical practice guidelines. Topics have included asthma, urinary tract infections in children, many aspects of well child care/pediatric preventive medicine, broncholitis, dehydration, child abuse, headaches in children & adolescents, concussion, care of the newborn, pediatric skin conditions, fever, etc. |

The grant funds an innovative training curriculum on the Chronic Care Model of practice for family medicine residents. The project objective is to develop, implement, and evaluate clinic-based interventions to reduce premature mortality caused by ischemic heart disease, unintentional injuries, chronic liver disease, and lung, breast, and colon cancer. The Project Directors will work with six faculty preceptors to develop and implement the curriculum, evaluate the clinic based interventions, and evaluate residents knowledge and attitudes about the chronic care model and the specific disease entities. |

This training grant was used to develop and implement a curriculum on maternity care for family medicine residents. The grant supported efforts to create a Family Medicine Maternity Service in University Hospital and a freestanding prenatal care clinic within the Family Health Center. The grant also supported efforts to transition our clinics outpatient prenatal care to an electronic medical record (Sunrise). The maternity training curriculum covers all aspects of maternity care as related to family medicine: preconception counseling, prenatal care, care during labor and delivery, immediate peripartum care, postpartum care, and care of the newborn. |

The competitive grant is awarded to family medicine residencies to support efforts to increase immunization rates among children in the residency training clinics. Our Family Health Center will use the grant to develop and implement the following:
1) patient tracking systems to ensure timely patient follow up and adherence to CDC guidelines
2) an incentive program that encourages parents to bring their children in for check ups
The grant also funds a resident attending a national conference to present the results of this quality improvement initiative. |
