| Title | Predoctoral Training in Primary Care Grant |
| Status | Active |
| Period | 7/2009 - 6/2012 |
| Role | Principal Investigator |
| Grant Detail | This project supports medical student learning experiences in two important areas in Family Medicine: (1) Caring for patients in at-risk populations (i.e., the elderly, homeless, victims of violence, substance abusers, and those with HIV/AIDS) and (2) the scientific basis for family medicine and the specialtys involvement in research. The first component, caring for patients in at-risk populations is a longitudinal curriculum that stretches from the first through the fourth year of medical school. The second component, research, teaches selected medical students who have finished their first year the principles of research and embeds these students in a Family Medicine residency in Texas where they gather research data for a summer project. The students return to San Antonio, analyze the data, and disseminate the results of their research at professional meetings. |
