I enjoy working with students from various health professions from all over the country. Working on the US/Mexico Border has allowed me to pursue many interests including service learning, community based research and environmental public health.

Grant Detail	The project blended the community outreach strengths of the Area Health Education Council (AHEC) with the indoor air technical expertise and resources of two well-established UTHSCSA Environmental Medicine programsthe nationally recognized South Texas Environmental Education and Research (STEER) program in Laredo and the Environmental Medicine Education Program at the Regional Academic Health Center (RAHC) in Harlingen. The purpose of the project was to train community health workers to understand, evaluate, and intervene when household indoor air exposures pose a potential risk for children or adults with asthma. The projects activities specifically addressed three EPA priority areas: Indoor Environmental Asthma Triggers Education and Exposure Reduction, Indoor Environmental Asthma Triggers Healthcare Professional Training, and Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS) Education and Exposure Reduction.
