Ms. Purcell is an Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist with over 20 years of experience in multiple delivery of care areas in oncology. Her areas of experience include: inpatient care; outpatient/clinic care, hospice, home IV therapy, phase I drug development clinic, and bone marrow transplant. In addition to patient care experience, Cynthia has experience in cancer program development and coordination and worked as a consultant for five years in the pharmaceutical industry. Currently, Cynthia holds the position of Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, School of Nursing and is enrolled in the Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with an anticipated date of completion of May 2013. She contributes to oncology nursing as a member of the editorial review board for the Oncology Nursing Forum and as a board member for the San Antonio Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society. Areas of practice and academic interest include cancer screening and early detection; patient safety initiatives; improvement of processes for nurses in the delivery of care setting; and, creative teaching strategies in undergraduate nursing education.
