Dr. Kevin M. Gureckis is currently on staff as a tenured full-time Professor, Department of Comprehensive Dentistry, the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Dentistry, serving as a General Practice Group Leader for 25 third and fourth year students. He is a retired military officer, with over 24 years of active duty service, and 4 years as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) in the USAF, completing his career as Program Director of the two-year AEGD residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB, TX, along with appointments as Military Consultant to the USAF Surgeon General for General Dentistry and Special Consultant to the Assistant Surgeon General for Dental Services. He was awarded the Legion of Merit medal upon retirement.

He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with a B.A. in Chemistry in 1973, and received his D.M.D. degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1976. A one-year General Practice Residency was completed in 1977 at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH, along with a two-year General Dentistry Residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB, TX in 1989. In addition to seven additional past military assignments, he has had four years of private practice experience in Goose Creek, SC.

Dr. Gureckis was a diplomate and Board Examiner with the Federal Services Board of General Dentistry, and board certified by the American Board of General Dentistry. He is a past member of the ADA?s Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) as a site visit consultant. He is a Master in the Academy of General Dentistry, Fellow in the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, and Pierre Fauchard Academy. He is also a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of Operative Dentistry, American Dental Education Association, and the Federation Dentale Internationale/USA Section.

He served on the Board of Directors for the Texas AGD for six years, past President of the TAGD, prior national Chair for the AGD?s Legislative and Governmental Affairs (LGA) Council, ADA House of Delegates member for Region 4 (representing the USAF Dental Corps), national AGD House of Delegates for both the Region 17 (Federal Dental Services) and Region 18 (Texas AGD), and past President and now member on the Advisory Council for the San Antonio Component of TAGD. He was recognized as a 2012-2013 AGD national new member recruiter. He has been awarded the 2010 TAGD Leadership Award, the first ever recipient of the San Antonio District Dental Society Faculty Award for Excellence in Organized Dentistry, and the 2016 TAGD President?s Award. He has academically supported the TAGD Fellowtrack and Mastertrack programs, new dentist study clubs in San Antonio, Austin and Dallas, providing exam review lectures in restorative dentistry, biomaterials, fixed and removable prosthodontics. He serves on the Editorial Board for the Operative Dentistry journal.

His duties at the UTHSCSA School of Dentistry have included co-director of the DS-2 operative dentistry laboratory and lecturer in restorative dentistry. He was the 2008 to 2011 recipient of the Dental School?s Development Board Professorship in Clinical Dentistry. He is past President of the Mu Nu local chapter of OKU Honor Dental Society. He has clinical research experience and has authored scientific articles in restorative dentistry, including contributions in two textbook chapters recently published. He is a student mentor for the Critically Appraised Topics (CATs) program, and the ADA/ICD `Great Expectations? program at UTHSCSA. He serves on numerous dental school committees and task forces, including the Chair of the Curriculum Committee, past six-year dental school representative to the Council of Faculties for ADEA, past chair and member on the Dental Student/Faculty Relations committee, current co-director of the AGD Student FellowTrack UTHSCSA program, prior member of the Dental Faculty Practice Advisory Board, lecturer for the UTHSCSA International Dental Education program (IDEP), Dental Early Admission Program (DEAP) for senior college students, mentor for the UTHSCSA Teaching Honors Program, and committee member for numerous postgraduate periodontal research thesis projects. He has mentored in the Center of Excellence summer enrichment program with the Learning Enhancement for Achievement in Dentistry (LEAD) operative dentistry section for DS2s for the past three years. He has honorably served as the Assistant Marshall (Hooder) for the Dental School Graduation for his GPG for classes from 2011 to 2016. Finally, as a retired military officer, he mentors with the UTHSCSA Military Health Interest Group, providing panel discussion input for students and residents considering a health professions military career.

He has been awarded the 2008-2009 UTHSCSA Second Year Dental Student Professor of the Year and the UTHSCSA School of Dentistry Faculty Assembly 2015 Teaching Excelle
