Neuroanatomy, electron/confocal microscopy, pain- 1)The normal organization of the trigeminal brainstem nuclear complex and its response and reorganization following injury with emphasis on central nervous system plasticity. 2)The neuroanatomical basis for pain transmission and modulation within the trigeminal nucleus. 3)The correlation of basic research findings with the pathophysiology of orofacial pain patients and the development of new treatments for these patients. 4)Sodium channel localization within the normal and injured rat trigeminal system; contribution to neuropathic pain states. 5)Sodium channel and thermoreceptor localization within normal and diseased human teeth. 6) Human trigeminal pulpal pain mechanisms. 7) Regeneration of the human dental pulp with post-natal, dentally-derived stem cells. 8) Gial-neuro-immune-vascular interactions in neuropathic and inflammatory trigeminal pain states in humans and rats. |
