| 8/2009 - Present | General Dentistry Seminar | The University of Texas Health Science Center | 103 students |
| Co-Course Director - Dental graduates are expected to be able "apply the principles of ethical reasoning and professional responsibility as they pertain to patient care and practice management." Previous didactic ethics courses (COMD 6031 and COMD 8031) provided students a working knowledge of ethics terminology and a basic understanding of the ethical principles as well as an exposure to ethical issues challenging the profession. Their experiences in the clinic and on extramural rotations exposed them to situations in which ethical issues would be encountered. This ethics research and/or reflection paper (2500 words) has been assigned to DSIVs to capture their ability to identify ethical dilemmas and apply ethical reasoning to novel situations. Detailed instructions regarding the papers expectations and grading rubrics were developed and presented to students. Their grade on this reflection paper will contribute to their final grade in this seminar course. Additionally, one (possibly two) seminar sessions will address ethical issues. (direct contact time:2.5 hours with preparation time of 40 hours; review of papers estimated at 125 hours) | |||
