I am a physician-scientist with clinical expertise in phase I experimental therapeutics and gynecologic cancers. My laboratory expertise is in human immunology with an emphasis on understanding the immunopathologic basis of human diseases including cancer, infections and autoimmunity. I have significant administrative expertise as past chief of two different academic divisions of hematology and medical oncology, director of a general clinical research center and executive director of an NCI-designated cancer center. I translate my groups discoveries into novel clinical trials. I have been funded by the NIH and other entities since 1987. |

| My group and I are focused on finding optimal means to use immune therapy to treat a variety of immunopathologic conditions including cancers, infections and autoimmunity. We study immune dysregulation underlying immunopathologic states in mouse models and human patients and undertake clinical trials of our own findings. Current work focuses on the role of immune regulatory cells and dendritic cells in immunopathology and sexual dimorphisms in the functions of these cells. |
