I am faculty at the Department of Neurosurgery and Director of the Neuroscience ICU at UTHSCSA.

I enjoy working in the academic environment and I have great interest not only in patient care but also house staff education and research. I trained in Neurology, Internal Medicine and Neuroscience Critical Care and Stroke. Further, I have research training in epidemiology and biostatistics. My clinical interests are in the care of critically ill neurosurgical and neurological patients. My clinical and basic research interests other great interests are related to the biology of acute cerebrovascular insults, the acute immune response after an acute cerebrovascular injury, mediators of secondary brain injury, neuro-protection after an acute vascular insult, surrogate biomarkers, vascular reactivity and impact of an acute brain insult in the cardiovascular system.

I was born in Bogota - Colombia. Currently, I am married and I have a 9 year-old child. I have permanent residency status in the U.S.A. I am fluent in Spanish and English, as well as some knowledge of the German language.
