Dr. Lopez-Cruzan very recently joined the Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse in the Department of Psychiatry. She is also the Assistant Director of the Biological Psychiatry Analytical Labs. Dr. Lopez-Cruzan received a Ph.D. in Cellular & Structural Biology with a track on Aging from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She was awarded The Presidential Ambassador for The School of Biomedical Sciences by Dr. Francisco Cigarroa. Dr. Lopez-Cruzans research background is in basic research in aging-related degenerative diseases in which mitochondrial oxidative stress alters the natural balance of programmed cell death and cell proliferation.
Dr. Lopez-Cruzans present research interests are in biomarkers of drug and alcohol abuse, studies on alleviation of veterans PTSD, and the pharmacology of aging intervention testing.
