I have been a faculty member at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio since July 2009 after obtaining a Ph.D. in the Department of Cellular and Structural Biology at this institution. My teaching responsibilities include course directorships for Dental Gross Anatomy (CSBL 5016)and Anatomy II (CSBL 8010) for first-year dental and third-year physical therapy students, respectively. I am also a co-director for the newly implemented Interprofessional Anatomy course (CSBL 5022) for occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant, biomedical engineering and graduate students. Most recently, I have designed and will direct a Dental Gross Anatomy Teaching Elective (SELC 7133) available to selected upper division dental students with an interest in teaching. My current interests include anatomy education and the development of innovative techniques for teaching the anatomical sciences. Thus, I serve as a representative on several committees within the Health Science Center and nationally that focus on basic anatomical science education. During the past 5 years, I have completed several hours of continuing education credits sponsored by the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). I have represented the UT Health Science Center nationally as an active member of the Commission on Change and Innovation in Dental Education, and as an elected member of the American Association of Anatomist Advisory Committee for Young Anatomists. In addition, I have recently fulfilled a contract with F.A. Davis publishing for ancilliary materials for a dental hygiene text book and I am in the process of designing anatomy educational software for use in specific anatomy courses taught at this institution.
