Dr. Hill-Kapturczak is a Research Scientist in the Division of Neurobehavioral Research in the Department of Psychiatry at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She obtained her Ph.D. in Biomedical Science: Health and Environmental Chemistry from Oakland University. Her dissertation included the electrochemical measurements of nitric oxide in cellular systems. She completed postdoctoral training in molecular biology, and went on to join the faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology, at the University of Florida in Gainesville. In 2003, she relocated to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Division of Nephrology, where she obtained several grant awards to study the molecular mechanism and beneficial effects of the induction of the human heme oxygenase-1 gene. In May 2008, Dr. Hill-Kapturczak joined the NRLC to expand her research scope and apply her expertise in molecular biology to more clinically-relevant areas. Her interests not only focus on developing translational research, but also on ways to facilitate communication between researchers and practitioners in community-based prevention and outreach programs for adolescents at risk for developing substance use problems.
