I maintained a Private Practice in General Dentistry from 1980-2010 and am now General Practice Group 8 Leader and Co-director of GEND8077, the 26.5-hour course in General Dentistry for Seniors. My commitment to teaching was first demonstrated by completion of the inter-disciplinary University Teaching Excellence Course, an 18-month continuum, in April, 2012. In 2014, I was recognized by the Dental School Faculty Assembly with its Teaching Excellence Award and received the San Antonio District Dental Society Award for Excellence in Teaching and Support of Organized Dentistry in 2015. My biggest reward as a teacher comes from the notes of appreciation from former students as they are successful in their own careers.

Scholarship and Service to the Community and Profession was recognized before my faculty appointment by Fellowships in the Academy of General Dentistry, American College of Dentists, and International College of Dentists. Recognition has continued as I now serve as a Grading Examiner for the Western Regional Examination Board, Expert Reviewer for the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, school liaison for American Dental Education Association Commission on Change and Innovation in Dental Education, and the Texas Dental Association Council on Dental Education, Trade and Auxiliaries. As a faculty mentor to DS2 students for Critically Appraised Topics evidence-based reviews, 9 publications have resulted, with 1 published in the Texas Dental Association Journal and 2 among the top 20 in world-wide online views as of October, 2013.
