Dr.Child is fellowship trained and is active in research concerning complex spine surgery.He completed his AO Spine fellowship at the busiest and perhaps premier spine trauma center in the world at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Washington in a combined Orthopaedic and Neurosurgery spine department.He presents nationally on topics including spine trauma
and oncology.

His focus includes Craniocervical and upper cervical injuries, Lumbopelvic trauma,Spinal cord injury,Infection(epidural
abscesses,discitis and pyogenic osteomylitis).

Complex adult deformity and degenerative disorders of the spine. Spondyloysis and
spondylolisthesis, Artificial disc replacement Cervical thoraic and lumbar microscopic spine
surgery.Minimally invasive XLIF lateral techinques.Safety and complication prevention in spine care.

In addition he is a candidate
member of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society and treats all aspects of tumor surgery with special emphasis on primary and malignant tumors of
the pelvis spine and extremities.Trained at Harvard,he worked at the Massachusetts General Hospital including Harris Chordoma center and
presented research nationally on massive tumors and resections of the pelvis and sacrum.

He has extensive experience with computerized navigation in these highly complex surgeries and team based comprehensive oncologic care.His focus includes Adult and pediatric primary and malignant bone tumors,(Osteosarcoma,Chondrosarcoma, Ewings, Soft tissue sarcoma, Benign tumors of bone and soft tissue(giant cell,aneurysmal and unicameral bone cysts,osteochondroma) Chordoma,Metastatic disease, Complex infection.

These two disciplines also mean that Dr.Child is the only double fellowship trained surgeon treating tumors of the spine in San Antonio and works closely with UT Cancer Therapy and Research Center.Please consider Dr.Child for any advice transfer or consultation regarding care in these issues.
