Kelin M. Ogburn, M.D. is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health at San Antonio since July of 2013. Dr. Ogburn completed her medical school in Brazil at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. She obtained her Psychiatry Residency training at the Medical College of Georgia and is board certified in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Once Dr. Ogburn became faculty of the Department of Psychiatry, she immediately engaged in areas involved with education and service.

For last 5 years, Dr. Ogburn is an Attending Psychiatrist for the Inpatient Psychiatric unit at the University Hospital. She has been very involved with the unit, providing care for patients with severe mental illnesses like Schizophrenia and Bipolar disorder, and their comorbid conditions like substance use and other medical problems. Dr. Ogburn has assumed the role of Clinical Director for the Inpatient Psychiatry Unit at the University Hospital in 2015 in which she has the responsibility of overseeing the functioning of the unit, the care of the patients and works in coordination with the hospital administration. Dr. Ogburn contributed as a leader in the inpatient unit, demonstrating great guidance in integrating nursing staff with faculty, resident physicians and medical students while combining their education and providing high level of care for psychiatric patients. Dr. Ogburn advanced her involvement with her administrative role, representing the psychiatry unit at the Inpatient CMT Medical Directors committee at the University Hospital, and at the UTHSA, she has been involved with the Student Health and Wellness Committee since 2014, becoming the Chair on this committee in 2015 to now.

Dr. Ogburn is actively involved in the training of the next generation of physicians, through her teaching and supervision of medical students and psychiatry residents. In addition, Dr. Ogburn has assumed position of Associate Training Director for the Psychiatry Residency Program and is dynamically helping the program. She participates in several committees related to the Psychiatry Residency program, including Clinical Competency Committee, Program Education Committee, Residency Application Review Committee, and is the Chair of the Educational Policy Committee. All these committees work together in managing and evaluating different aspects of the residency training. She has developed a PRITE review didactic course for the Residency Program and is involved in teaching medical students, providing lectures and leading Small Groups patient?s interview teaching.

Dr. Ogburn always had a great interest in learning about human brain and behavior, and the field of psychiatry was the perfect area to integrate both of these interests. Prior to completing her Psychiatry Residency, she had obtained a Research Fellowship at UTHSCSA where she worked on different projects in the department of psychiatry. As researcher, she worked with Neuroimaging in Bipolar Disorder, with Panic Disorder and its mechanisms of defense, and with a Human Brain Bank, obtaining brain collections and analyzing neurotransmitters in suicide. Dr. Ogburn continues to engage in scholarly activities, and divulging it beyond the department through conferences like the American Psychiatric Association national meeting.
