UTHSCSA Faculty Profiles v1.0

Jay, Colleen Louise

School of Medicine
Transplant Center

I am a multi-organ transplant surgeon specializing in liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation. Since joining the staff in 2014, I have directed the pancreas transplant program and the living kidney donor program here at UTHSCSA. I also serve as the Region 4 representative(Texas and OK) for the United Network of Organ Sharing Kidney Committee which is responsible for addressing issues related to kidney organ procurement, distribution, and allocation. I also am an active clinical and health sciences researcher who has focused on survival, allocation and policy issues related to the utilization of non-ideal liver and kidney allografts. In my first year on staff here, I received a CTSA KL2 career development award from the UTHSCSA Institute for Integration of Medicine and Science. The research for this grant is focused on the optimal use of older kidneys for transplantation of older patients to improve survival and a better understanding of transplant center decision making in the current regulatory environment. I have a pending NIH application for a K23 career development award based on further development of multi-institutional networks to enable robust and timely clinical trials focused on improving outcomes after kidney transplant.
