Abby Blankenship, PhD is an Assistant Professor/Research and a Licensed Clinical Psychologist within the Division of Behavioral Medicine and the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Blankenship has 14 years of experience in clinical research in the areas of psychological resilience and the prevention and intervention of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma related problems in active duty service members and veterans. Dr. Blankenship earned her doctoral degree (PhD) in Clinical Psychology from Western Michigan University. Dr. Blankenship completed her clinical psychology residency (internship) at the Southwest Consortium where she rotated at the University of New Mexico Hospital and the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center. Dr. Blankenship completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in trauma psychology at University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. Following her fellowship she joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor to support the efforts of the South Texas Research Organizational Network Guiding Studies on Trauma and Resilience (STRONG STAR) and the Consortium to Alleviate PTSD which are housed within the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Blankenship works primarily at the STRONG STAR and Consortium to Alleviate PTSD at the Fort Hood site. Currently, Dr. Blankenship holds a number of leadership positions. She is the Chief of Psychology for the STRONG and CAP where she oversees 30 research personnel assisting with the ongoing trials at the largest U.S. Military installation in the world. Dr. Blankenship is the Associate Director of the Fellowship in Trauma Psychology, and the Director of the Texas A&M Undergraduate Internship program. In combination with the UT Health San Antonio leadership, Dr. Blankenship collaborates with off-site principal investigators and military partners to develop and implement clinical research trials, and Dr. Blankenship has secured her own research funding as a principal and co-principal investigator.
