Dr. Sarah Knoeckel joined UT Health San Antonio in August 2019. She is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing and teaches in the nurse practitioner and nursing undergraduate programs. She is also in clinical practice at the Wellness 360 clinic which serves UT Health San Antonio students and employees and their dependents. She is an experienced family practice nurse practitioner in primary care and most of her career has worked serving the underserved at a Federally Qualified Health Center caring for both children and adults of all ages.

Dr. Knoeckel earned her BSN at Radford University (2005), and her MSN at the University of Virginia (2009). In October of 2009 she was selected to be a part of the first Nurse Practitioner Residency which a year long program at the Community Health Center in Connecticut. In 2010 she went on the pursue her Doctorate of Nursing Practice which she completed in 2015.

It is her personal mission to help train the next generation of nurse practitioners to meet the healthcare needs of the underserved in primary care.

She has traveled with academic and faith-based organizations on medical and service trips to El Salvador, Spain, Costa Rica and Peru.

Her research focus has been on obesity management in primary care, diabetic shared medical appointments in primary care and chronic disease management and behavioral lifestyle interventions.

She grew up in Spain and speak Spanish fluently. She is married and has 3 children. She enjoys reading, cooking, hiking, swimming and traveling.
