Undergraduate teaching is my primary educational focus. I teach clinical and didactic in four core traditional undergraduate nursing courses in the Fall and Spring semesters. Strategies for Adult II (N4315/4316) which concentrates on caring for acutely ill patients and consists of 112.5 clinical hours. Leadership-Management focuses on leadership/Management (N4319/4320) concepts and consists of 112.5 clinical hours. Both courses are team taught allowing classroom teaching to be a shared responsibility. I am the course coordinator for NURS 4320, NURS 4329 Leadership & Management: Theory and NURS 4230 Leadership & Management: Clinical Application, accelerated BSN courses. I developed the leadership-management courses and initiated the courses Summer 2011. From 2006 to 2015, 2018- present I take undergraduate BSN students to Guatemala each summer for an international global health experience. This course allows students to study in a foreign country, learn about healthcare issues impacting the country and provide healthcare to the indigenous Mayan Indian populace. Medical and surgical care is given along with community support. I practiced in the intensive care setting in a Surgical/Trauma ICU setting at Brooke Army Medical Center until January 2011 which enhanced my ability to lecture, promoted credibility in the clinical setting when interacting with students, and supported realistic curriculum revision. I maintain my required CNS-CC clinical hours.

Changed and strengthened the undergraduate Immersion preceptor course. Implemented ATI integration via the Virtual program into the course. The Virtual program is a programmed review of the essential content in a nursing program - foundamentals, pharmacology, med/surg, psych-mental health, OB, Peds, and Leadership-Management. In 2016 implemented the Methodist Internship students into the Immersion course. |
