Adult Cardiac Surgery- Provide patient care and resident education for a full array of adult cardiac surgery with particular expertise in management of the aortic root with a large series of aortic root and arch reconstruction for aneurysmal disease and dissection. Active participant in the implementation of evolving technologies in our group including trans-catheter valve replacement and endovascualar thoracic aortic repair |
General Thoracic Surgery- Very active with clinical evaluation and operative therapy for lung cancer, teaching thoracic and general surgery residents preoperative evaluation, operative technique and postoperative management until our Department separated the Adult Cardiac and Thoracic into separate Divisions. |
Lung and Heart Transplantation- UNOS certified surgeon actively involved in the lung and heart transplant programs from 2002 until 2012. From 2002 - 2007 the primary surgeon to provide preoperative evaluation of lung transplant candidates including review of history and all studies, examination and extensive preoperative counseling. Committed to the success of the lung transplant program as an operating surgeon while evolving greater expertise in heart failure management working to promote the growth of the heart transplant program. With transition of our department into separate adult cardiac and thoracic teams in 2012 my direct involvement with the lung program has been limited to procurement support. |
Resident Education- Committed to developing the best possible curricula for training the next generation of Thoracic Surgeons. I was the Associate Program Director of our Integrated Thoracic residency from 2013 - 2104 and now Program Director since 2014. Very active in national curriculum development working with the Joint Council on Thoracic Surgery Education as a curriculum editor, member of the simulation development committee and member of the resident assessment committee. |
