I am dual board certified in Nuclear Medicine and in Diagnostic Radiology. My area of interest is Nuclear Oncology and Molecular Imaging with focus on Positron Emission Tomography - Computerized Tomography (PET-CT). As one of the pioneers of whole body PET imaging in San Antonio, my colleague and I performed the first whole body PET scan ever performed in this city. We started this as part of a research protocol and then offered this technology for clinical practice. Our work has been recognized in the city. This technology is now essential for the majority of cancer patients` staging, treatment response follow up and detection of early recurrence.

Nuclear Oncology and PET- CT imaging- Nuclear Oncology and PET-CT imaging ? I am proficient in the combined use of Positron Emission tomography (PET) and computerized tomography (CT), both state-of-the-art imaging tools that allow physicians to pin point the location of cancer using functional molecular imaging (PET) combined with anatomic imaging (CT). The PET-CT combines the strengths of these well-established imaging modalities into a single scan to allow more accurate diagnosis before making treatment recommendations. I have been involved with this diagnostic imaging technique during the early stages of development as a researcher and an evaluator of the impact this technology has had in the cancer patients for determining response to chemotherapy. This technology is now essential for evaluation of many cancer patients in order to determine the tumor stage, monitor treatment response and evaluate for early tumor recurrence. Due to the fact that I am considered expert in this field, I am involved in teaching of the PET-CT technique and its impact on clinical care. I also have an interest in non-PET nuclear oncology which is based on molecular and receptor imaging; and I am currently establishing a reputation in this related field through lectures and teaching. |

As director for the 4 week Diagnostic radiology residents Nuclear Medicine lecture series, scheduled for November-December 2015, my responsibility is to coordinate between UTHSCSA and SAMMC radiology faculty, a series of lectures in Nuclear Medicine for the radiology residents at both the institutions. These lectures will be shared between the two institutions via video-teleconferencing. The goal of this lecture series is to teach the residents to interpret Nuclear Medicine studies. | |||
