Better treatment of tuberculosis is a global health priority. Today, an estimated 2 billion people are infected with tuberculosis, and annually, 9 million people progress to active disease and 1.4 million people die. To improve therapy, my research focuses on (1) novel methods of diagnosis, prognosis and risk stratification of tubercular disease, and (2) the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and pharmacogenetics of antituberculosis drugs used in international, randomized clinical treatment trials.
