Undergraduate clinical teaching is my primary teaching focus. I have been teaching since 2010, starting as a clinical instructor. I was promoted to clinical assistant professor in 2012. My teaching has been across the curriculum; Immersion, Leadership and Management, Adult II which primarily is acute care of the adult, Health Assessment and Foundations. My leadership was in coordinating Foundations both traditional and accelerated track, and Health Assessment. While primary focus is clinical, I have co-taught in Health Assessment didactic and was guest lecturer in Foundations.

Cardiac Cath Lab/Interventional Radiology- Charge Nurse. Expert in preparing patients for cardiac catherization. Expert in teaching patients about cardiac catherization, athrectomy (removal of plaque in lower extremities), Intravenous conscious sedation (IVCS), and interventional radiology procedures. Educational Nursing- Teach CPR and ACLS for the organization and across two counties. Continuous education with the medical-surgical nurses regarding disease management and patient safety. Teach radiology process, diagnosis, appropriate IV catheter size, and pain management for new employee orientation. Developed and implemented an organizational learning needs assessment for med-surge nurses regarding knowledge of radiology procedures. Developed and implemented decision trees as a quick reference for the staff nurse when preparing patients for radiology procedures. Developed and implemented patient education forms about computerized tomography (CT) procedures, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures to assist the nurses with education of patients. Placed the forms on the intranet. Developed and implemented tracking form to ensure efficiency of documentation of education. Provided in-services for med-surg regarding the use of decision trees and patient education forms. In collaboration with the Radiologists, developed and implemented protocols for CT coronary angiogram for the organization. In-services given to radiology technologists about safe and efficient patient care in the radiology department, instructed how to disconnect and reconnect the cardiac monitor. Developed and conducted competency training for the use of the PICC lines for radiology technologists. Developed and submitted a formal proposal for a process change regarding medication errors. PRN Staff Nurse (LVN)- Worked primarily in newborn nursery. Cared for up to 40 babies in the well nursery, doing assessments, feeding, bathing, changing. Sick baby nursery cared for 7-10 babies, doing assessments, giving medications, feeding, and changing. Worked one unit and had 13 patients per nurse. General nursing, re-started IV`s, and administered medications. |
Patient Care Coordinator (assistant nurse manager)- Rounded with physicians on 13 patients. Assessed 13 patients and assisted the LVN`s with IV medications. Primary care of four patients. Assisted with education at the unit level. |
Pre-op clinic nurse- Developed and implemented a pre-op nurse position for surgical patients. Worked independently in a supervisory role. Excellent critical thinking assessment skills. Excellent IV skills. Patient education on all surgical procedures. Obtained history and physical pre-surgery. Obtained necessary lab work, EKG, CXR at pre visit. |

Radiology Department Nursing- Charge Nurse, level IV nurse. Maintains the safety of patients transported throughout the hospital. Maintained the flow of patient care, acts as liaison between radiology and nursing units. Developed and implemented standardized written orders for all physicians when ordering bowel preps and to assist the community pharmacies with the correct prep kit contents. Developed and implemented a nursing position at the outpatient ambulatory center in radiology. Developed and implemented a nursing position in the hospital radiology department. Assisted with developing job description for general radiology nurse. Developed protocols and policies for radiology technologist procedures. Developed a questionnaire for patients receiving Iodinated contrast. Developed discharge instruction sheet for Metformin and Iodinated contrast. Close collaboration with the Radiologists when caring for renal insufficient patients who require renal protection and intravenous (IV) hydration pre and post computerized tomography (CT) scans. Works independently with expert knowledge and excellent critical thinking assessment skills in radiology procedures and patient safety. Excellent critical thinking skills when managing contrast reactions. Evidence-based research conducted and implemented regarding Iodinated contrast and Gadolinium contrast in relationship to Contrast Induced Nephropathy (CIN), and Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF). Revised the renal protection policy according to new guidelines from the American College of Radiology. Checks all lab work relating to renal function before CT and MRI scans. Completes medication reconciliation for outpatients before CT, MRI, and Nuclear Medicine scans. Through evidence-based research, developed and implemented standardized orders and policy for Coronary CT Angiogram. |
Recovery Room Nurse- Cared for immediate post surgical patients. Extubated patients that were waking from anesthesia. Monitored pain control, and medicated as needed. |
