Dr. Punchamannil joined the Nursing Faculty at the University of Texas Health Center at San Antonio in the Spring of 2014. Dr. Punchamannil brings a wealth of clinical expertise to the School of Nursing, University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSA). Born and studied in India, she has worked in various countries, and with various cultures. She has worked in various Mediterranean countries such as Bahrain, Oman, and the united Arab Emirates. she has served the General Head Quarters (Military) of the United Arab Emirates prior to coming to the United States in 2004. More recently (2004-2014), she has worked at Methodist Hospital, San Antonio as the charge nurse of the Women`s Oncology unit. Dr. Punchamannil received her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from University of Alabama at Huntsville in Leadership. She holds a certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a board-certified nurse executive. She has certification in Nursing Education from University of Texas at Arlington. Dr:Punchamannil teaches undergraduate courses in leadership and management & medical surgical nursing for both traditional and accelerated nursing students, which are relevant to her expertise. |

Improving Health Literacy- Integrating teach-back method of teaching to improve communication between the healthcare provider. Teach back is a simple method of teaching where material is taught using simple language in a respectful and non-shaming way, and confirming the understanding by asking patients to state the learning in their own words. |
